Buenas Tardes. It’s (actually) sunny today in Evanston, so Happy:
National Superhero Day (damn, I should’ve saved that superpower question for today)
National Great Poetry Reading Day (why have there been so many poetry related days recently???)
National Blueberry Pie Day (relatedly, does every dessert need a day?)
Global Pay It Forward Day (do something nice today. It won’t kill you.)
Welcome back after what I hope was a good weekend. I know mine was. Unfortunately, that good weekend left me zero time to write, indicating to me that this will have to become the (Week)Daily Boofy for the foreseeable future. Sorry if that disappoints. Have no fear, though—I’ll make sure to update you on everything you missed over the weekend. Now, let’s kick off this week by having a day:

New Releases in:

Last Week In Review
Gladiator (2000)
Wow, how did I not finish this when I tried to watch it last year? What a stupid move. Such a badass movie. Russell Crowe’s Maximus is honorable and brave, serving as the perfect foil to Joaquin Phoenix’s cunning and despotic Commodus. The battles are enthralling, complemented by a score that lets them shine. I was most definitely entertained, and I’ll probably be extremely annoying this coming summer when I enter Rome for the first time.
Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
A heavy movie, but beautiful in its own way. I’m not sure if I even have the words to do McConaughey and Leto’s performances justice (I guess that’s why they won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively). Their commitment to the roles was outstanding, both in performance and in physicality. They clearly understood the gravity of the story they needed to tell. An extremely impressive display of the craft that is acting, and a movie that reminds you that there’s a reason everyone can’t be a movie star.
In Theaters: Revenge Of The Sith (2005 Re-Release)
Hell yeah. They might not actually be good movies, but I love the prequels. To see Episode III, which I’ve seen dozens of times at home, on the big screen for the first time was nothing short of magical. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Star Wars movie I’ve actually enjoyed on the big screen (looking at you, Rise of Skywalker. Ugh.). I had a smile on my face the entire time, and I could feel that everyone else in the theater was grinning all the same. Loved it.

What’s your favorite Oscar Winning Movie? Reply with your answer
It doesn’t need to be a best picture winner - just needs to have an Oscar to its name.
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Sorry for going MIA yesterday. Literally did not have a second to look at my computer. Being back at school is great, but it also keeps me far busier. As such, there might be shorter editions and other changes. I’m still trying to find the rythym, so bear with me. It’ll (hopefully) all be worth it.
As always, email me with any column requests or content ideas. Now, it’s a great day to have a day. Drink plenty of water. Go outside. And remember: the greatest gift of life is simply being alive. Make the most of it.
Hasta mañana.
