April 30th, 2025 // Vol. XVII // Get Your Head In The Game

Buenas Tardes. We got teased with some sun in Evanston, but now it’s just cloudy and dull again. Oh, well. Happy Hump Day, and Happy:

  • National Bubble Tea Day (Evanston is uniquely prepared to celebrate given the literal billion boba shops around town)

  • National Bugs Bunny Day (ehhhhh, what’s up doc?)

  • National Hairstylist Appreciation Day (Shoutout my boy Josh—the only dude I trust to touch my hair)

  • National Honesty Day (no pants on fire here!)

  • National Raisin Day (idk if this is a hot take, but I’m a big fan of raisins)

  • National Oatmeal Cookie Day (ok, someone at National Day Calendar has to be pulling our leg. Oatmeal Cookie Day is the same day as Raisin Day? Come on now.)

I know I’ve been (extremely) poor at my goal of getting this out in the morning. My friend Carlie gave me a strategy that might help with that, so next time you see one of these come in the AM, you have her to thank. Today is not that day, but let’s have a good one anyways:

New Sessions at:

Last night was a bit of an impromptu game night at our house. I think everyone could use to play more board games and the like, so I figured I’d share a couple of suggestions:

Secret Hitler

Ok, don’t let the name throw you off. This game is all about fascists vs. liberals (might be a bit on the nose in the current climate…). The fascists and Hitler are hidden amongst the group, trying to enact their agenda through devious lies and cunning moves. The liberals want to sus them out before they can win the game.

I first played a while ago with my youth pastor, which was fun to explain when I got home (“Hi, sweetie, how was your church leadership group meeting?” “Oh, it was good. I got to be Hitler.”). Now, we play often, and the intensity depends on how many drinks the group has consumed. Regardless, it is by no means a quiet game, that is for certain. I highly recommend, and the rowdier the group the better.

Poetry For Neanderthals

We play game. Game fun. Time count down. I see card. I give hint. You make guess. You get right. Team get point. No long words. One sound. More hard than you think. If too much sounds? Bonk on head with stick. Most points at end, we win. If you no get gist of game, too bad. No can use more than one sound.

Would You Do Stand-Up Comedy

Pretty split here - as I mentioned on the IG stories, a wise man one told me that “everyone has a good stand-up set in them.” Remember that you can just do things. So if you want to do stand up, do it.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Slow on the draw again today, but I think that all might change this weekend. Stay tuned.

As always, email me with any column requests or content ideas. Now, it’s a great day to have a day. Drink plenty of water. Go outside. And remember: the greatest gift of life is simply being alive. Make the most of it.

Hasta mañana.
