Howdy. The rain seems to have stopped in Houston, but that doesn’t mean we’re stopping. Happy National:

  • Piña Colada Day (damn, this makes me miss FUBAR. Real ones know.)

  • Kitten Day (Kittens good; cats, I’m not so sure)

  • Clerihew Day (Apparently this is a type of poem, so let me try my hand: The Daily Boofy // Is pretty goofy // Likes the news // But would rather snooze)

Now that my terrible attempt at poetry is over, let’s have a day:

QOTD 36: Cats or Dogs?

Do you like superhero movies? (+ what’s your favorite)

The “Yes” votes took it by an 81-19 margin, which I’m glad to see. There’s been chatter about superhero burnout or fatigue, but DC boss and Superman director James Gunn dismisses it as “mediocre movie fatigue,” which I tend to agree with. When you put a strong, compelling story on screen, people will watch and appreciate, as evidenced by some of y’alls favorites:

  • The Dark Knight led the way by far, and if it really came down to it, this would be my pick. Heath Ledger’s Joker is what really makes it. One guy even said this is the only superhero movie he likes.

    • There was also a Dark Knight Rises shout, which was accompanied by a “duh.” Solid movie, but not sure it gets “duh” status when TDK is right there. Bane is awesome though

  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 3 got some love, which should make James Gunn happy.

  • I was surprised to see a Doctor Strange callout, but it sneaky is one of the top tier MCU films

  • Captain America: Civil War joined the mix as well, which will always have my appreciation for bringing Spider-Man to the silver screen in the new era

  • My favorite answer, however, was The Incredibles. This might just make a run at my favorite movie ever, period. It probably helps that it was the first movie I saw in theaters, kicking off a lifelong love of the cinema. It’s just so damn good. Practically perfect.

One respondent claimed that they’ve never seen an MCU or DC movie. I’d love to call BS, but I’ll take it at face value and just be sad that they haven’t seen some of these aforementioned classics.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

The new season of Always Sunny dropped last night, and they did not disappoint. If you’re unfamiliar, don’t worry: You only have 16 seasons to catch up on.

As always, email me with any column requests or content ideas. Now, it’s a great day to have a day. Drink plenty of water. Go outside. And remember: the greatest gift of life is simply being alive. Make the most of it.

Hasta mañana.
