Afternoon. Back in Houston where this all started, and, boy, it’s a lot hotter than when I left it. We must brave the heat and celebrate though, because it’s:

  • National Roadie Day (there’s no way being a roadie is as cool today as it was in the rock heyday)

  • National May Ray Day (sunshine really is one of the best blessings life has to offer, so get outside and photosynthesize today)

  • There’s another dessert national day, and I won’t say what it is, but I felt weird about having only 2 bullets.

Something about being in my childhood bed makes me sleep like a baby, so it’s really not my fault for the late start today. Regardless of hour of awakening, let’s have a day:

New Concerts in:

Another Dillo Day has come and gone, and I have some thoughts. For the unintiated, Dillo Day is “the largest student-run music festival in the country” and the one day that Northwestern students try (and fail) to act like a state school. There’s a whole day of concerts that students attempt to attend with varying degrees of success. It’s a day to remind you just how many students actually go to NU, especially when they all decide to congregate at the entrance of a darty that they have no wristband for. It also can be a day of controversy, as it was on Saturday.

“Where were you when BigXThaPlug was cancelled” will be added to the pantheon of shocking moments, right next to Kobe’s death and 9/11. Hours of listening to a fat man’s husky baritone gone to waste as Mayfest (Dillo’s organizers) announced that the Houston rapper would no longer be performing. I nearly fell to my knees at the darty when I heard. My day was immediately soured, and I thought about not attending any of the other concerts as a protest.

My friends pressured me to attend the replacement, Iann Dior, but that only made me more upset. As to not mince words, he was awful. His music caters to TikTok-addicted 12-year-olds, and he wasn’t even singing. We came late and left early, and that was still too much.

It was up to Natasha Bedingfield to save the day with her three bangers, and luckily she did. I learned a couple of things about her during the nighttime headline set: a) She’s British, 2) She’s gotta a killer voice, and d) She does a fantastic cover of “Zombie” and “Purple Rain.”

I could probably say more about Dillo, but for multiple reasons, the rest is still unwritten.
